Twin Lakes Family Dental Welcomes New Leitchfield Dentist

We love being the Leitchfield dental office our patients have come to know and trust with their smiles. We consider it a great honor to take care of our friends, family, and neighbors. We take our responsibility as your smile-makers very seriously, which is why each of our team of dental professionals is hand-selected by Dr. Holwager.

We wouldn’t trust our patients to just anyone. That’s why we are so excited to introduce you to Twin Lakes Family Dental’s newest associate, Dr. Courtney Thompson.

Hometown Dental Care

Dr. Thompson has joined our practice to care for our patients alongside Dr. Holwager. She shares our passion for the community and is focused on family and children’s dentistry.

Dr. Thompson got her education right here in Kentucky. She attended the Western Kentucky University for her Bachelors of Science and the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Her dedication to dentistry goes beyond the care she provides patients. With a passion for staying up to date with the latest in dental care, she maintains professional affiliations and memberships in the Academy of General Dentistry, Kentucky Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

“I care about my patients, being able to help them and give them something to smile about again. I genuinely love being a dentist!”

With such a deep love for her patients and for dentistry, coupled with her skills and experience, we know you’ll be well taken care of.

Getting to Know Dr. Thompson

We focus on relationships here at Twin Lakes Family Dental. We strive to get to know our patients beyond their oral health, and we want them to know us as well. We can’t wait for you to meet Dr. Thompson, and you probably have a lot in common.

In addition to growing up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she enjoys riding bikes, and as an avid baseball fan, she travels to Atlanta often to support the Braves. She is happily married to her husband, and they have a son who is almost two named River as well as a Yorkie called Barley. In the summer, she likes to hike and be outdoors.

All I Want for Christmas…Is My Two Front Teeth

Perfect Holiday Song for Dentists

Oh, that song brings so many wonderful holiday memories. Plus, the union of a beloved Christmas song and teeth – it just doesn’t get any better for a dental office!

Here at Twin Lakes Family Dental, we have jumped in and fully emerged ourselves in the season. From decorating the office to enjoying the beautiful lights of Light Up Leitchfield at Leitchfield City Park. Did you see our banner? Dr. Holwager and the Twin Lakes Family Dental team revert back to the time that they were missing their two front teeth!

We have even been able to play Santa’s little helpers by making some real wishes for new smiles come true this year.

Ready for a New Smile

We often talk with patients that have spent years hiding their smile behind their hands or holding back a true laugh because they don’t like the appearance of their teeth. Having to hold back your joy can be even more frustrating during this time of year.

We want you to know that a new smile or replacing missing teeth isn’t just something you have to dream and wish about.

With the technology and advancements in dentistry today, we have been able to give our patients new smiles in as little as two visits. And replacing missing teeth with dental implants is almost like being able to have your own teeth back. Our patients are amazed at how natural dental implants can look, feel, and function. For denture wearers, dental implants can stabilize and secure their teeth so they can eat all their favorite foods again in confidence.

If you are ready for that new smile or some new front teeth, we can help. Call today and come in for a free smile consultation.

What to Expect

During your dental consultation, you’ll get to meet Dr. Holwager and our entire smile maker team. We dedicate your appointment to learning more about your goals and sharing all the possibilities dentistry can offer to give you a smile you’ve always wanted.

During this season, we want you to have the freedom to fully celebrate all the holiday cheer. Call today and schedule your complimentary smile consultation.

Six Month Smiles is ideal for patients 16 and older that are tired of crooked teeth that are unevenly spaced. Six Month Smiles is also a suitable treatment for patients with misaligned teeth. Patients sometimes refer to Six Month Smiles as disguised braces because of the clear or tooth-colored materials used. Six Month Smiles uses clear brackets and tooth-colored nickel-titanium wires to comfortably align your teeth into the smile you’ve been looking for.

Who Can benefit from Six Month Smiles?

While each case is unique, Six Month Smiles can correct a variety of misalignment and cosmetic problems like:

Do You Know Everything Your Hygienist is Looking for During Your Check-up?

So you go to the dentist every six months because it’s good for your teeth and good for your health. Your visits may seem to go the same, check-in, get your x-rays (if it’s time for x-rays), see your dentist, and your hygienist. Do you know what your hygienist is looking for? Let’s find out!

Dental Hygienists Want to Keep You Healthy!

In short, dental hygienists primary focus is finding and treating the smaller problems concerning your oral health. Smaller problems don’t mean less important, though! Your hygienist can learn a lot about your health in some interesting ways.

By examining your teeth and gums, your hygienist looks for signs of tooth decay and gum disease. Your exam is also the perfect time to look for any nodules or swellings in the oral cavity that could be present a greater threat to your health.

Check out these things you may not realize are going on during your check-up:

  • Smelling your breath: Bad breath isn’t just unpleasant, it can be a red flag for dental problems! Halitosis can be a warning sign of gum disease, an infection, cavities, or even poorly fitted dental appliances like dentures.
  • Checking the condition of your enamel: Enamel is the protective outer layer of your tooth, but it isn’t invincible. Cracks and chips in your enamel can be a sign that you are grinding your teeth while you sleep.
  • Examine your tongue: The color and the condition of your tongue says a lot about your health. A healthy tongue should be pink, if your hygienist notices soreness or discoloration, it could indicate vitamin deficiencies or oral cancer. Good news! Cleaning your tongue daily while brushing your teeth promotes good tongue health!

Dental Hygiene is Good for Your Health!

Regular check-ups with your dental hygienist reduce your risk of:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Oral cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Tooth loss
  • Gum disease
  • Dental decay
  • Bad breath

Yes, your dental hygienist is concerned with more than just brushing and flossing (although those are very important habits to keep)! Your hygienist cares about your health!

October is National Dental Hygienist Month! Why not call Twin Lakes Family Dental today to schedule your next cleaning and check-up? Your hygienist is excited to help you improve your health. Call us today!
